TYPES OF MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS

COUNSELORS & THERAPISTS
Counselors & therapists can diagnose and treat mental health conditions. They often specialize in treating certain conditions and/or in certain modalities of therapy (different types of therapy may include DBT, CBT, talk therapy, etc). This includes LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and LPC (licensed professional counselor), among others.

PSYCHIATRISTS
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication.

PSYCHOLOGISTS
Psychologists specialize in diagnosing developmental, cognitive, behavioral, and mental health conditions. Some psychologists also provide ongoing treatment.

I use a variety of play-based and talk-based evidence-based treatment modalities, including child-centered play therapy, filial therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Theraplay, motivational interviewing (MI), trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), the ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency) model, and Families Moving Forward (FMF). I was trained in EMDR in 2022.
