Do you offer substance abuse recovery services?

I assist individuals experiencing not only issues around substance misuse, but more widely addiction and its many forms.

Do you specialize in working with veterans?

I would not consider this a specialty, but I have some experience and educational training in working with veterans and would be very open to continue this trend.

Modalities and Training:

I conceptualize my work through a “bio-psycho-social-spiritual” lens in an effort to address the whole person, so I like to focus on integrative treatment approaches. Health encompasses the whole person. As such, I like to be proactive in helping individuals make improvements in their health, nutrition, and physical activity whenever possible. I am a certified EMDR provider and consultant (EMDRIA). Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain that may be contributing to present distress. I also utilize what today is often called 'parts' work'. Parts work is an umbrella term for therapeutic approaches that view the psyche as consisting of semi-autonomous subpersonalities (“parts”), each with distinct feelings, needs, memories, and strategies. Therapy helps individuals recognize, befriend, and harmonize these parts rather than suppress them. The goal is to help all the parts get along and help you feel more balanced. Parts' work therapy can be an effective adjunct role with EMDR to treat a wide variety of issues and disorders. I am also trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR level 2) which is an emerging trauma-focused therapy that addresses the brainstem and sub-cortical structures which store primitive responses to trauma. Additionally, I like to use cognitive-behavioral approaches that are designed to help individuals stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions by providing skills to manage intense emotions and social relationships, curb self-destructive impulses, while promoting acceptance and greater psychological flexibility. I’ve been trained in Neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback; BCIA certified) and Biofeedback. These modalities can benefit a large number of conditions linked to dysregulation of the nervous system, yet they do not “treat” or “cure” disorders in the medical sense. Instead, they train self-regulation skills that can reduce symptoms or improve functional performance across diverse domains. Neurofeedback (and biofeedback) can be an adjunct to traditional psychotherapy or a standalone treatment that can help clients leverage the mind-body connection to help them better control their body’s involuntary reactions to stress and reach deeper states of relaxation and emotional well-being. Families and couples work is built around helping individuals recognize how the unmet needs and feelings behind our words, as well as our tone and actions, affect ourselves and others in order to learn new ways of being and communicating with others, especially those we love. This kind of work draws from a combination of non-violent communication (NVC), family systems, and attachment-based approaches for couples and families. I also enjoy helping individuals explore the different ways life can offer meaning and purpose. I'm an Eastern Orthodox Christian in practice and comfortable helping others with spiritual and existential issues around meaning, mystery, the Transcendent, God, community and culture, nature, and/or any spiritual traditions and practices one may be interested in. ***Nepsis Integrative Psychology also offers Health and wellness coaching which is available through Sarah Niecko who is a board-certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC)***.
